The bridge which takes the north-eastern end of Lower Oldfield Park
under the G.W. Railway has a headroom currently limited to 4
metres.
It might be possible to lower the road saurface so as to gain some additional headroom - but the area is low-lying and was previously prone to flooding, also adjacent properties have rights of access onto the road (Lower Oldfield Park), so there is a practical limit to how much the surface level could be altered. The option of raising the main London - Bristol railway line can be discounted because of the enormous cost involved and there is little scope for replacing the overbridge structure with a shallower section to increase the available headroom.
