VEHICLE WEIGHT

The weight of modern continental trams is in the region of 50 tonnes or more, vehicles of that size would be most unsuitable for Bath.

The old Bath trams weighed around 10 tonnes but the wooden construction and 'garden furniture' would not be tolerated these days.

Pullman TPL have set out to serve the lighter-weight tram market and produced a 22 tonne vehicle which is articulated in 3 sections. A single-car version of this would be expected to weigh slightly under 15 tonnes and a double-decked version would be a little over 15 tonnes.

By chosing a vehicle in the 15 tonne weight range, Bath could expect a 50+ year life from LR55 track on the suburban routes and about 25 years from the heavily used city centre circle
