DEFINITIONS OF SUSTAINABILITY
In 1987, the World Commission on Environment
and Development developed a definition
of sustainability that was included in its findings, which became
known as the
Brundtland Report.
It stated that:
Sustainable development
meets the needs of the present
without compromising the ability of future generations to meet
their own needs.
Although this definition has become widely
publicized, the term sustainability
is not limited to one precise definition.
